High expectations for Kalmar's new medium range

The new Kalmar 9-18 tonne range is a replacement for machines that are already market leaders within their segment. A truck regarded by the market as advanced, well-designed and efficient. The expectations for the new truck are especially high.

- The new medium truck is better in every department, it is the best truck we have ever launched. The customer responses we have had so far have been extremely positive and our customers quickly discover that the vehicle is really efficient”, says, Mikael Rietz, Marketing Manager at Industrial Systems.

Technically advanced – simple to drive
Efficient handling is the primary goal for the new truck. New technical solutions are plentiful, and our customers can select the design themselves with several optional extras for simpler driving, faster lift etc.

– A well-balanced chassis with a very low centre of gravity is the key. Driving the truck instils a feeling of safety and comfort, with excellent visibility in all directions. In addition, there are several completely unique functions, either standard or extra, meaning the truck can simply be adapted to suit different requirements. Among these new functions is Optidrive, which allows you to control the speed and lifting power completely independently of each other, something entirely new for a medium truck.

A totally new cab solution further adds to the freedom of choice for the customer. FlexCab is a simple and robust solution that can be customised by having a full cab to a partially or completely open safety cage – all with excellent all-round visibility.

– New FlexCab is an addition to our well-known driver environment Spirit Delta, which still offers the best in terms of ergonomics.

Handles tough environments
Typical environments for the medium truck are sawmills, docks, quarries and steelworks. Tough environments with stringent demands.

– We are working to be even better in really tough and demanding environments. Our current truck is already first-rate, but the new one is even stronger. The important feature of the new truck is that the standard design can already cope with the high demands for reliability, low noise levels etc. New features include the introduction of an entirely new engine that meets all known emission requirements.

Low overall cost
The owner of a new medium truck has made an investment that should pay for itself. The key to the calculation is undoubtedly the running costs and uptime. For the new 9-18 tonne range, Kalmar has doubled the interval between regular services, which now stands at 500 hours. Just this change means that running costs are reduced by 15 percent. Another decisive factor for the overall cost is uptime.

– The new truck is manufactured to provide maximum reliability with as few unplanned stops as possible. This lays the foundations for sound finances and efficient handling. The truck requires minimum servicing, and the diagnostics system allows quick and simple detection in the unlikely event that a fault should develop.

Extensive distributor network
To improve our contacts with small and medium-sized companies, Kalmar has developed its European distributor network over recent years. The company has entered into a number of contracts with leading distributors in a number of markets and our presence has increased dramatically.

– The new structure brings us closer to our customers and, as an example, we can offer turnkey solutions for leasing and service contracts. The development of the distributor network is an ongoing process, but we have already seen a pronounced increase in sales in several markets.
